In being part of Give a Day you support two trusted organizations, the Stephen Lewis Foundation and Dignitas International.
Give A Day recommends these organizations, because:
 |
| |
|
They have been founded specifically in response to the AIDS pandemic. |
 |
| |
|
They have Canadian roots. |
 |
Whether through the hundreds of community-based organizations supported by the Stephen Lewis Foundation, or by the thousands of people receiving treatment and care because of Dignitas International – you can be part of making a difference. Your entire donation goes directly to the recipient organization, each with its own focus and record of success fighting the AIDS pandemic at a grassroots level.
You can direct your donation to either recipient organization, or to both.
The Stephen Lewis Foundation
supports community-based organizations
that are turning the tide of HIV/AIDS in Africa by providing care to women, grandmothers, orphans and people living with HIV and AIDS. We have funded more than 300 grassroots initiatives in 15 sub-Saharan African countries.

Within the next five years, the SLF will:

Reach a million of the most vulnerable children (including orphans,
children with disabilities, children heading households) in countries hardest
hit by the pandemic. In 2008 alone, we reached 200,000 children.

Support grandmother groups to access pensions, health care, food sources
and emotional support.

Support home-based care workers with stipends, training and support
Provide quick and effective support in crisis situations for grassroots organizations working at the crossroads of sexual violence and
HIV/AIDS. www.stephenlewisfoundation.org.
“Give a Day is an intensely individual and human response to the AIDS pandemic. You can’t imagine what a few dollars will do to transform human life amongst sophisticated and resilient people who are struggling for survival each day.”
Stephen Lewis, Chair of the Stephen Lewis Foundation
Dignitas International is focused on creating living results by helping communities survive AIDS. Dignitas increases access to effective HIV/AIDS-related prevention, treatment, care and support in Africa through developing, implementing and sharing community-based solutions. Through Dignitas¹s partnership with Ministries of Health, non-governmental organizations and local community groups, tens of thousands of families are once again focused on living. In Malawi, Dignitas continues to make a difference in the lives of hundreds of thousands of people in the Zomba district.

Over the next three years, Dignitas will:
Expand access to treatment in five additional districts in Malawi, for
the benefit of three million people, almost one quarter of Malawi¹s population.
Manage the HIV/AIDS referral clinic at Zomba Central Hospital, which serves
as a pilot site for several initiatives aimed at improving patient care and bolstering human resources for health.
Train and mentor 2,000 frontline healthcare workers and health systems managers and supervisors.
Start 45,000 adults and children on life-saving antiretroviral treatment.

“To see first hand, the impact of AIDS on African communities inspires you, as an individual, to try to do something to help. Dr. Philpott has taken this further – she has inspired other individuals to join her in her fight against AIDS.”
